The new canon powershot G12  comes with likely features,720/24p video capture with stereo audio and a Mini-HDMI connector, multiple aspect ratios, a high dynamic range scene mode, electronic level and tracking AF,1/1.7-inch sensor, 10 megapixel resolution, DIGIC IV processor, RAW and JPEG shooting options and 5x optical zoom covering the 28 to 140mm focal range.The camera has HD Movie capability, shooting at 3 resolutions up to 1280.

 The G12 lens is quite sharp.Anyway,that not awful,the G12 does display visible barrel deformity in widest of 28mm and also a bit of fringing on high-contrast sharpen,particularly end the sharpens of the frame.The lens is a Canon 5x optical zoom giving a 28mm to 140mm equivalent at f/2.8 to f/4.5 highest opening.The 5x optical zoom encase many functional focal lengths, long setting for portrait and sports, wide for landscape and architecture.
